The
Xfoos Rating System
by the USXFF
(US XFoosball Federation)
Compiled by Steve Simon
Updated 6-15-10
1. The system is based on the United States Chess Federation rating system.
2. All tournaments that are USXFF sanctioned will be a rated event. (Not all Xfoos tournaments are USXFF events - only major ones).
3. USXFF rated events will be played by USXFF timed foosball rules and in the USXFF timed foosball format.
4. Only singles matches are rated. There is no doubles rating.
5. Every person has what is called a "provisional" rating for their first 18 games. During this time the formula for calculating the rating has more fluctuation than the formula used for an established player.
6. After 18 games players ratings are "established" and a different formula is used to calculate the ratings.
7. The way a rating is calculated is a formula that takes into account games won minus games lost, the average of all your opponent's ratings, and your rating at the time.
8. Everyone that plays in their first Xfoos tournament will be given a provisional rating that has been calculated from previous ratings from tournaments on other tables and bell curved up or down. This will tighten the pack and give players a new chance to prove themselves on the Xfoos table.
9. All matches will require the players filling out a match card that display matches won, games, and points.
Without going into the specifics of the formula a sample rating change will be shown:
Lets say you go to an Xfoos tournament after playing 18 rated games to date. According to the format you end up playing 9 games. The average of your opponents ratings was 1,950 and you won 5 games and lost 4. Your new rating would be 2,030. If you went 4-5 your rating would be 1,870. If you went 6-3 your rating would be 2,190 and if you went 3-6 your rating would be 1,710.
Lets say you go to an Xfoos tournament with playing 18 rated games played to date and your provisional rating is 1,900. According to the format you end up playing 9 games. The average of your opponents ratings was 1,950 and you won 5 games and lost 4. Your new rating would be 1,918. If you went 4-5 your rating would be 1,886. If you went 6-3 your rating would be 1,950 and if you went 3-6 your rating would be 1,854.
There is a greater fluctuation in rating before 18 games are played.
There are several classifications of rankings and they are as follows:
2,400 and above - Senior Master
2,200 - 2,399 - Master
2,000 - 2,199 - Expert
1,800 - 1,999 - Class "A" Player
1,600 - 1,799 - Class "B" Player
1,400 - 1,599 - Class "C" Player
1,200 - 1,399 - Class "D" Player
1,000 - 1,199 - Class "E" Player
